Live: Your Life With Christ

Live by Rebecca Manley PippertFrom the back of the book:

Christianity offers newness-new life, new future, new perspectives, new priorities.  But what does this look like for you?

Internationally renowned speaker, evangelist and author Becky Manley Pippert’s newest resource is the What Next and the How To. In five interactive, informal sessions combining DVD clips, Bible study, discussion times and testimony footage, Becky explores the truth and content of the gospel, and how to begin and keep going in the Christian life.

A wonderful study for new Christians or  unbelievers.  The author takes you through can we trust the Bible?  To giving and explaining the gospel, is it worth living the Christian life? and then finally the new life in Christ.

The study book takes you into a deeper study, with historical context, questions and Bible reading.  These tools would be very helpful in a group study, or even to churches to hand out to new visitors, or even to use as a discipling tool.

Can I really trust the Bible?

Can I really trust the Bible? The Bible makes big claims for itself. But do those claims stand up?
Aren't the stories just legends? Hasn't the information been corrupted over time? Isn't the Bible full of mistakes? And isn't it culturally outdated?
In this absorbing little book, Barry Cooper explores these questions - and many others - with warmth, wit and integrity.

This is a great book on apologetics.  The author Barry Cooper has done a great job at researching the doubts that people may have when they look into the Bible.    Questions about can I trust it?  Is it true?   He takes us straight to scripture 2 Tim 3:16,  All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.  He walks the reader through many arguments that have been brought up through the ages, and gives scriptural references to defend them.

This would be a good book for new Christians, those who are seeking, and even a good refresher for any Christian.

Being Church Doing Life

Being Church, Doing Life cover

This popular introduction explores how ordinary Christians can serve people outside the church by starting Christian communities in their everyday lives.
Drawing on over 120 great stories of fresh expressions of church, it offers plenty of ideas to stir the imagination.
It answers question like:
  • what’s the one thing we should know?
  • how do I start?
  • how can we grow disciples?
  • how can my church get involved?
  • what’s the secret of success?

Evidence now suggests that contextual church plants have an important role to play in church growth. There is an increasing international interest in these new and different forms of church, often known as ‘fresh expressions’ or ‘emerging church’. Author Michael Moynagh is a member of the UK national Fresh Expressions movement, a remarkable initiative that has attracted widespread attention around the world. In this inspiring volume he shares practical and comprehensive advice on how to start and grow new churches – however small – in every context of life. This popular introduction emphasizes practical aspects, telling many of the great stories that have emerged through practitioners. It will enthuse and help church leaders and individuals to start and develop these communities; and advise them on how to help them grow to maturity and become sustainable.

This was an interesting book to read,  the author is writing about new church options and how make them start.   It is interesting , and I believe it is a great opportunity for the unchurched to come to know who Christ is and why we believe in Him.   It shows how to create an  non intimidating atmosphere to help those who are tired of "church" or are in need of fellowship.

In this book we are given reasons why this should be done,  how to grow our disciples,  examples of ways it has been successfully done, and the benefits.

This book would be great for anyone looking for a way to minister to people, those who want to get into ministry, and even those who are looking into church planting.

The One Year Devotions for Active Boys

This fun devotional includes 365 upbeat devotions, each with a special twist or dose of humor to keep active boys engaged. The devotions combine Scripture and a spiritual message with jokes, riddles, puzzles, and hands-on activities to engage tween boys. The devotions help boys find how real people interacted with God and help them discover solutions to contemporary issues. Each devotion will help guide a young man in developing a lifetime habit of learning from the Bible. Themes include how to navigate the Bible, make good choices, discern God’s will, use good and uuplifting language, avoid temptation, choose good friends, trust God, etc.

I was truly impressed with this devotional.   It is full of applicable situations that deal with everyday life; most that one would experience.    It also has some fun interactive things for your young man to try, from puzzles to experiments, to weird facts.

The only thing I would change is to have the scripture a the top or in the forefront instead of at the bottom near the end of the devotional.  I think it would be important to read through the scripture before starting into the devotional.  Nonetheless, a very good devotional that will be used with my active little man!
