Renewing Your Mind

Renewing Your Mind (Victory Series Book #4): Become More Like Christ: Volume 4

This is a Bible study for those who are going through a process of hurting.  It takes you though the process of hurting, how to deal with worry, loss, and depression.

I like that the author takes scripture and applies it to our lives, makes you search inwardly and apply it.

This would be a good book to use in a counseling situation, or with a group of people who are hurting.

Everything Counts

Author Steven Chase has written a wonderful devotional book for teens.

He has done a delightful job in making use of Oswald Chambers Utmost for His Highest, using this and building upon it, to make a devotional that teens will surely enjoy.
I appreciate his format, where Mr. Chase writes his thoughts, then he moves into what Mr. Oswald has on paper, and then a spot where to ponder between yourself and God.
This is a devotional, filled with boundless information for teens.   It would be great on a one on one basis, or used in a group situation.
It has an attractive cover, and and apt title.

Esther

Esther: Royal Beauty, Dangerous Beauty Series #1 - By: Angela Hunt

From the back of the book: When an ambitious tyrant threatens genocide against the Jews, an inexperienced young queen must take a stand for her people.

When Xerxes, king of Persia, issues a call for beautiful young women, Hadassah, a Jewish orphan living in Susa, is forcibly taken to the palace of the pagan ruler. After months of preparation, the girl known to the Persians as Esther wins the king's heart and a queen's crown. But because her situation is uncertain, she keeps her ethnic identity a secret until she learns that an evil and ambitious man has won the king's permission to exterminate all Jews--young and old, powerful and helpless. Purposely violating an ancient Persian law, she risks her life in order to save her people...and bind her husband's heart.

This is a oow  novel taken from the book of Esther in the Bible.  This is a compelling novel, and it  is accurate  for the most part, although, if you do read the story from the Bible you will notice that there are some major differences. I love the way the author has taken the the book and written
it in a way that we can experience the life of Esther.  Imagining how she must have  felt, what she was going through. You can imagine what it was like back in  843 BC . It was a great easy read, and it brings the Bible to life.  I look forward to more of the Dangerous Beauty Series.

NKJV Study Bible for Kids

 9780718032456

From the Publisher:

The NKJV Study Bible for Kids is the premier study Bible for children 8 to 12 in the trusted New King James Version, and in full-color! Not only is this a Bible for study of biblical facts and themes, it also includes articles that are topical, and truly applicable to a child's daily life!
This is a great study Bible, not only is it colorful and attractive to kids, but it is full of great things.  In colorful side boxes there are things like spotlights.  In this box, or section, a Bible personality will be highlighted for the child to understand and apply the principles to their lives.   I also like the "in focus" sections which help explain certain words in the passage such as "sacrifice"and "swaddling".  The Bible also helps the child put into action what they have read, and is complete with time lines, and a good concordance.  All in all a great study Bible for kids, and even adults for Sunday school lessons.

Cup Of Dust

A Cup of Dust
 From the publisher:

Ten-year-old Pearl Spence is a daydreamer, playing make-believe to escape life in Oklahoma's Dust Bowl in 1935. The Spence's have their share of misfortune, but as the sheriff's family, they've got more than most in this dry, desolate place. They're who the town turns to when there's a crisis or a need--and during these desperate times, there are plenty of both, even if half the town stands empty as people have packed up and moved on.
Pearl is proud of her loving, strong family, though she often wearies of tracking down her mentally impaired older sister or wrestling with her grandmother's unshakable belief in a God who Pearl just isn't sure she likes.
Then a mysterious man bent on revenge tramps into her town of Red River. Eddie is dangerous and he seems fixated on Pearl. When he reveals why he's really there and shares a shocking secret involving the whole town, dust won't be the only thing darkening Pearl's world.

This is an amazing novel that takes place in the setting of  the "dust bowl" in Oklahoma in 1934.  Thia book is full of history, mystery and lots of drama.  It lets us understand what it truly is like to do without, and to lean on the Lord in times of need.

I highly recommend this book, it was hard to put down.
