The Daniel Plan

Revolutionize Your Health ... Once and for All During an afternoon of baptizing over 800 people, Pastor Rick Warren realized it was time for change. He told his congregation he needed to lose weight and asked if anyone wanted to join him. He thought maybe 200 people would sign up, instead he witnessed a movement unfold as 15,000 people lost over 260,000 pounds in the first year. With assistance from medical and fitness experts, Pastor Rick and thousands of people began a journey to transform their lives. Welcome to The Daniel Plan. Here's the secret sauce: The Daniel Plan is designed to be done in a supportive community relying on God's instruction for living. When it comes to getting healthy, two are always better than one. Our research has revealed that people getting healthy together lose twice as much weight as those who do it alone. God never meant for you to go through life alone and that includes the journey to health. Unlike the thousands of other books on the market, this book is not about a new diet, guilt-driven gym sessions, or shame-driven fasts. The Daniel Plan shows you how the powerful combination of faith, fitness, food, focus, and friends will change your health forever, transforming you in the most head-turning way imaginably---from the inside out.
This is an amazing book!  We are told to treat our bodies as temples, but how do we really treat them?  Are we over tired, worried?  What about the foods we eat?  Are they glorifying or will they hurt our "temple"?

This is not another "diet" book, but a way to look at our lifestyle.... a whole new way of thinking.   By using our focus, that is our thought process, and our food, and fitness we can turn our lives around.

By eating whole foods, exercising regularly, reducing our stress, and finding a support and love during the 40 day process, one can become a whole new person.

Included in the book is a detox plan, and recipes to help keep you on track.

I am personally using the “Daniel Plan” and hope to see a whole new me.

Stepping out in Faith

A young boy in the confessional lies about his sin, knowing that he is choosing hell over shame and embarrassment. A young man in spiritual distress decides to become a priest so he can be sure he will go to heaven. A white leather Bible sits in a box on a shelf for years, off limits to the little girl who asks to see it, because it might get dirty. “Just do what I say,” a priest tells another boy who is full of questions about God, “and everything will be okay”.
Steppig Out in Faith by Mark GilbertIn every one of these situations God transformed people by his word in the Bible, replaced lies with truth, and brought peace through the salvation that is only found in Jesus Christ. This is a book with not one but 11 happy endings.
The 11 individuals who share their stories of Stepping Out in Faith could not be more different. They are men and women from different generations and from around the world. But they have in common the peace they have found in God through the gospel of Jesus Christ.
This is a great book to help us understand those who are in the Catholic faith.  In this book we hear the words of former Catholics, in their own words, describe how they felt and how they converted from their "religion".  It is amazing to hear how God transforms each one of these people, and to see how many of them have grown in their relationship with Christ.
It is well written, very easy to read, and I think this is a book for someone who is thinking of converting, or is uncomfortable in their "religion".   It is also a great help for teaching and learning how Catholics think.

Sandpiper

The Sandpiper is about the three Cameron women. Kate the perfect older sister. Jamie the sister with the problems. Their widowed mother Ellie. It’s about Nina Judd, their guardian angel, the novel’s heartbeat. Kate had the chance to know their father  Lt. Dr. James Cameron. But Jamie was born too late. Sisters by birth. Sisters in loyalty sanctified by a blood oath. Two bright, pretty women full of promise. Then something happens the summer Jamie turns 18 that ruins everything. And maybe Kate’s not so perfect after all, Jamie not so hopeless. Embraced by The Sandpiper, Nina’s white-shingled cottage above the endless blue of Lake Michigan, the sisters struggle toward forgiveness, toward healing. That love is all there is Is all we know of love. -Emily Dickinson

This is a splendid story that keeps the reader captivated from the very first chapter.   The novel follows the lives of the 3 Cameron women, their “aunt” Nina, following the death of Lt. James Cameron.
The writer brings the reader into their lives, and you can feel and envision what these women feeling and dealing with in their day to day are living.
The book has, so many commonplace issues it deals with, that the reader can grasp, how and what these women are feeling.

I was a bit let down with the ending, but all in all I really did enjoy this book.   It is well written, easy to read, and I think that any reader would have a difficult time putting this book down.

Life In Christ

To be a disciple of Jesus Christ is to be in a position of privilege and blessing beyond anything the world might offer, begins author Jeremy Walker. Life in Christ explores the unsearchable riches of the Christian pilgrimage and traces its trajectory, highlighting key elements in the believers  experience. Do you wrestle with assurance? Have you grasped the engagement demanded in Christian living? Do you find the way wearying at times? Do you struggle with your Christian identity? Walker provides instruction for Christians to assess their own standing and progress in the faith exhorting and equipping and always pointing them ahead to the hope of the glory of Christ. Along the way, he encourages God s people to live a life to the praise of His glory as he examines some of the basic truths that establish and direct a true child of God.

Jeremy Walker does an excellent job in his book, explaining first the gospel; that is the salvation message.  He then walks you through the next chapters, showing us that we are free, and no longer bound to sin.

He also assures his readers about eternal security, which I think is very important, especially to new believers.  It is so important to know that we are secure in Christ!

Chapter 7 reminds us all that we are "a work in progress".  We can do nothing to work out our salvation, and we are new creatures in Christ, the old is gone and the new keeps growing.

This is a good book, a recommended read, although not an "easy" read, it is a short book;  if it is read
with concentration and care will be a great asset!

The Vicars Wife

A New Yorker all her life, Jane Hatton loved her job as the head of a charity championing women’s rights, but her fourteen year- old daughter, Natalie, had fallen in with the wrong crowd at her Manhattan school.

So Jane and her British husband, Andrew, have decided to move their family to the English countryside.
The Hattons have bought the large old vicarage in a small village on the Cumbrian coast, near Andrew’s new job. The silence and solitude of a remote village is quite a change. Natalie hates her new school, and eleven-year-old Ben struggles academically. Only seven-year-old Merrie enjoys country life. Has Jane made a horrible mistake? What of her career? Her own identity?

Putting on a brave face for the family, Jane tackles renovating the rambling, drafty old house. When she finds a scrap of a very old shopping list, she grows curious about Alice, the vicar’s wife who lived there years before.

As the twin narratives unfold—of Jane in the present and Alice in the 1930s—we discover that both are on a journey to discover their true selves, and to address their deepest fears.

This was an amazing book I could not put down!  It will grab your emotions, and pull you into the story; and into the lives of the two women.

It deals with the common conflict today, should a mother work outside the home?  It also deals with the battle of losing your only child;  a story of coping and learning.   It was very engaging, and keeps the reader wanting more.

The Reason For My Hope

Book Description

America’s Evangelist presents his masterwork.
Who would refuse rescue? This is the question Billy Graham asks throughout this book. The answer is sometimes surprising because there are actually people who refuse to be saved, even if they are in a hopeless situation. Why? Each chapter draws the reader in by posing questions for contemplation using relevant illustrations about what the world thinks in contrast to what the Bible says.
As Mr. Graham has expressed for decades, his purpose is to engage the reader in considering his or her life in light of the here and now and the hereafter. Who would refuse rescue from a plane crash, a sinking boat, an automobile fire, or an assassin’s bullet? True accounts are given that cause readers to ask what they think and how they would respond to similar experiences and to ultimately bring them to life’s most important question.
In what could be his final book, Billy Graham presents the core message that has guided his life and calling for more than 70 years. Filled with new stories and timeless truth, Graham once again calls the world back to its spiritual priority as only he can. The book coincides with a massive campaign of the same name by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association that will mobilize millions of people in the United States to invite friends and neighbors into their homes to hear the message of Jesus Christ through customized video and a new message from Mr. Graham.
I loved reading this book by Billy Graham, he brings us a book about hope and what salvation really is.  He asks the reader have you ever been saved?
A great question from one of the best evangelists!  To be saved from something for something, have you ever thought about that?
In the times we live, I believe that we need more books like this that can turn our world upside down.  We live in a dead nation, that is dead to the Gospel, even in our churches there needs to be more gospel, and I truly believe that this book is a must read for all.   One thing for certain is, Satan is out there in full attack mode, and Mr. Graham has written this book to give “hope” to those who are giving the gospel and as a help for those fighting the master deceiver!
Mr. Graham also discusses Christianity in today’s world, and that is such an eye-opener,  society would love to make people believe that God is devalued, and there is a mixture of religions, called faith blending.
This amazing book, probably one of Billy Graham's last books, reaches out, talking about redemption, salvation and our hope in the Lord.   Mr. Graham gives the gospel in a clear concise manner that anyone can understand.
